Oh yeah, before I forget, Ogilvy Advertising and its book paper is high quality! The paper in this book is editorial style. It's such an elegant book. Now, David was from the U.K., and he's in that countries Hall of Fame; otherwise, he'd be in our (U.S.) Hall of Fame.

  3. How To Make Your Advertising Make Money: Can you guess whom this book was written by? Yes, it was written by John Caples. It's safe to say I'm a student of John Caples and his works. If Testing Advertising Methods had a sequel, How To Make Your Advertising Make Money is the sequel. This book has successful headlines and strategies to make your advertising campaigns a success. One more thing… This book has pictures of Advertisements which you could copy word for word to increase your skills. Give this book a try! Plus, I believe David Ogilvy collaborated with John Caples to create this book. Two legends and one book. Two thumbs up.

Honorable mention: The Adweek Copywriting Handbook: Whether you are a beginner or an expert, The Adweek Copywriting Handbook is a must-read. Joseph Sugarman reveals his copywriting formula and 30 emotions to use for persuasion. There are so many golden nuggets in this book, and you'll be happy you invested in this book. If Joseph were in the Hall of Fame, I would have made my top three list a top four list.

I remember I stumbled upon an ad on YouTube and the YouTube man in the ad said, copywriting is "done," as if copywriting is now "dead." He continued to say that his course teaches new techniques. The man claimed that old methods don't work. Furthermore, this YouTube advertiser said his "secret" training is what works.

I decoded his script as he was lecturing, and the YouTube ad man was using Eugene Schwartz techniques. Eugene Schwartz was born in 1927! I was a bit triggered that some YouTube "guru" claimed his course was the new game while his video script had Eugene Schwartz tactics. Ughh!

Ok, I'm cool now… But seriously, be careful not to fall for "gurus" and their false claims. Copywriting was mastered and tested by the 20th-century guru's. In an older post, I said, "times change, but people don't." Human buying behavior has already been studied. Everything you need to discover about copy is already in books.

If a copywriting course is what is going to get you up and going… go for it! A copywriting course will show you the routes to writing good copy.

An internship is something a college graduate applies to and works for the experience. Mentorship is more or so for anyone looking to run their own show (business).

If you are a college graduate looking to work for someone, an internship is a good place to start. If you are a college graduate looking to run your own business, a mentor is a great option. Either way, both of your options are work in exchange for experience.

If you go into an internship or mentorship, don't expect to get paid for it. Last thought, a copywriting internship can go found on LinkedIn. LinkedIn for the save again! Do you have your sights on your dream company? Look up their CEO on LinkedIn and talk to him/her. Get well acquainted and one day ask the CEO, "Do you currently have any internship position openings?"

Whether the CEO of your dream company says yes or no… stay in touch with that CEO!

If he/she says, "sorry, I don't have any positions open." Don't give up! Tell the CEO that you're willing to wait for your turn. The communication doesn't stop.

Message the CEO on weekends and be yourself. One day he/she will be messaging you asking you if you still want that position.

CEO's want people like you whom they can trust. Your future boss will talk to you before hiring some "bailout" who wants a quick paycheck.

Have faith and don't give up on LinkedIn. More importantly, don't ask for payment. Since internships and mentorships are trading experience for knowledge, you'll have to wait your turn until you are on payroll. Patience is key, so hang in there.
